The Word is Alive

In my morning devotions I usually read a chapter from the Old Testament, a chapter from the New Testament as well as a Psalm or Proverb. I've been reading through Ezekiel and having just finished Revelation, started the NT over again with Matthew. All this to say, I have no schedule or read your Bible in a year kind of thing that I follow. So this morning I read Ezekiel 34 then moved on to Matthew 9. At the end of Matthew 9 the beautiful compassion of Jesus is portrayed. I decided to read the study notes at the bottom of that section and it says, "This paragraph summarizes the activity of Jesus in chs 5-9 (teaching, preaching, healing) and introduces the mission discourse of ch 10. The background is Ezekiel 34:5,6. Jesus is the true Shepherd who is concerned for His sheep (John 10), and He is identified with the "Lord God" of Ezekiel 34:11-16" How COOL is that? What a way to start my day! I am so amazed by this living, breathing Word that so harmoniously teaches me about my God, my Savior. I couldn't have PLANNED that. Yet, let me say that it happens often, proving to me again the Lord's perfect orchestration of ALL things even down to the minute detail of what I am reading in my Bible. If you are not in the Word daily, I KNOW it is hard to find the time, but just do it! He is ready to teach you, to draw your heart closer to Himself. Our merciful and compassionate Shepherd cares for you to know Him more deeply. The cares of motherhood are often overwhelming and draining, but find 15 minutes to read and it will not be in vain!
