Pajama Day

I love love love having a schedule with my children. On Friday we were supposed to go to a friend's house to play, but our friends were sick so I had dissappointed children. And I felt bad because this has happened a few times over the winter and I just wanted them to have a fun day. So I declared a "pajama day." They LOVE it when we do this because it means they get up and play for a while, have breakfast, and then play for the rest of the morning. Usually they have to get dressed right away, do chores, have breakfast, practice piano (Peter), and get going on school work. So they were LOVING the freedom. We watched a Little House on the Prairie dvd and ate popcorn for lunch! I made cupcakes in the morning so the kids helped frost them and we had them for an early afternoon snack. Then Peter and Kate played some more while the 2 little ones had their naps. I couldn't stand being in my pj's another minute so I took a shower and got dressed. By late afternoon I remembered why pajama day is a rare event. I need structure. My kids need structure. The chaos of freedom was getting to me. The house was a mess and I just wanted normal back. It was fun for awhile, but I am happy for today! I think the worst of the 1st trimester may be behind me and so I have decided it's time to get back on the treadmill. This morning I got up at 5am, walked, started laundry, showered, had devotions, vacuumed and dusted my room and oversaw the kids chores- all before 8am. How good it feels! Hopefully I won't be a zombie by noon!

pajama day sounds fun, but I think I would not like it for too long either....:-)
