because Brooke asked

This is what we are using for school this year:

Phonics- Veritas Press

Math- Saxon

History- Story of the World (Susan Wise Bauer)

Science- as recommended in The Well Trained Mind we are doing 20 weeks of animals, 10 weeks of the human body, and 6 weeks of plants. I also just found the God's Design for Life series from Answers in Genesis and am very excited to use it! I HIGHLY recommend it!! And I purchased Lyrical Life Science which is science songs with tunes you know. Peter and Kate each have a "nature notebook." This is something I've learned from my study of Charlotte Mason education. They do drawings of things when we go on "nature walks." I hope to do this a lot more with them as the weather gets nicer and their drawing ability increases.

Language Arts- First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer

Geography- we did Legends and Leaques (Veritas Press) which has a workbook and storybook that teaches about the globe, reading maps, etc. We also listen to songs to learn world geography, states and capitals, etc

Bible- we are using the Big Picture Bible Timeline to read through the Bible and color pictures along with the stories. Then the kids put these in a binder so they have their own picture timeline. This is available through Veritas Press. We also recently started using a cd series of the Westminster catechism in song by Holly Dutton as well as learning the catechism in our family devotions using the book Training Hearts, Teaching Minds by Starr Meade.

Art- Behold the Beauty by Connie Meyer- I love the basis for this book which looks at art as praise to our creator. In the front of the book is a very well written intro of looking at art from a Reformed, Calvinistic perspective. It has really fun projects for K and 1st that teach the basic concepts of art without being too overwhelming or involved. Another book I purchased, but haven't really started using yet is How to Teach Art to Children by Evan-Moor publishers.

some extra things we have to go along with the above are:

-Dover coloring books- WONDERFUL for science and history. You can find these through Rainbow Resource or Amazon

-many Usborne books ( I used to sell them and can still order with my discount) like foreign language sticker books and flashcards, science and history encyclopedias, animal books, art books, etc

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but this is the gist of what we do.
